Just this morning, Nintendo posted a video showing off “Wave 2” of the Summer Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This new update will bring customizable fireworks shows every Sunday in August as well as bringing back Luna from New Leaf to allow Nintendo Switch Online members to visit and create dream islands. Nintendo Switch Online members are also getting a feature that is sure to please many players: the ability to backup their game’s save and island data.

Even before Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched, players have had major concerns over the game’s save backup system works. A big sticking point for many players is that the game does not support cloud saving, a feature that has become much more ubiquitous in today’s consoles and digital distribution services like Steam. While cloud saving is still not in the game, players will soon be able to backup their saves and island in case something goes seriously wrong and their data is lost.

While it isn’t the cloud saving features players have been hoping for, this is still great news for players worried about losing their progress. As a series, Animal Crossing is one of those games that players can easily sink thousands of hours into, and losing all that progress can be devastating. More details on this feature will be announced when the update goes live this Thursday.
