Those players who have time travelled in New Horizons already knew that Nook’s Cranny could be an upgraded entrepreneurial venture for Timmy and Tommy Nook. The exact details of how this occurs has not been released by Nintendo, but the general consensus for how to upgrade Nook’s Cranny based on the Animal Crossing Fandom Wiki is to buy or sell items for a combined total of 200,000 Bells, have 30 pass since it was first built, and have the tailor Mabel visit at least once.

That 30-day timer is the big roadblock for players who aren’t skipping ahead using the Nintendo Switch’s clock, but it’s officially hit that point for those who bought the game upon release. Now those players can enjoy the expanded offerings of an upgraded store, as well as special items like a timer or colorful and outdoorsy tools.

Having Nook’s Cranny be closed for even a day has consequences that might not sit well for some. The turnip trade essentially shuts down, which stinks if the day the shop closes for renovations happens to be the day of a big value spike. Luckily the Earth Day 1.2.0 update has coincided with the main wave of Nook’s Cranny closures to at least give players extra excitement around their islands to focus on.

One of the biggest new additions to come in this recent update is Crazy Redd, an NPC who covertly arrives on player’s islands to sell famous real-life works of art that can be added into a new wing of Blather’s museum. However players do have to discern whether the sketchy salesman’s offerings are fake or not before purchasing.

Because the Nook’s Cranny renovations are based on a timer that’s set for every individual’s playtime, not everyone is going to have a beautiful new shop soon. However, for those bought Animal Crossing: New Horizons early on, prepare to be amazed by the bigger item selection and the adorable twin aprons worn by Timmy and Tommy.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
