Although Animal Crossing: New Horizons appears to have tamer villagers than its predecessors, several players have since encountered characters in the game that showed their shady personalities. Now, for those who want to make their life less dramatic and avoid these characters, here are the meanest villagers so far who have displayed their mean personalities in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Plucky
Plucky is a peppy chicken villager who has been in the franchise since the first Animal Crossing game. Although Plucky is not known to be a grumpy villager, an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player discovered her shady side. The player encountered Plucky sitting on a swing by herself. Upon striking a conversation with her, Plucky invited the player to sit beside her in the swing, which the player did. However, upon sitting beside her in the swing, Plucky immediately stood up and walked away. Of course, this incident might just be a simple coincidence, but no one knows for sure.
Sally
Sally is a squirrel with a normal personality, and just like Plucky, she is not known to be mean-spirited. However, a player had a nasty encounter with Sally in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which clearly shows that while the game is not a ruthless as its predecessors, some villagers are still finding ways to be mean to players. In this encounter, the player went up to Sally to have a chat with her. However, just like a classic bully, Sally complimented the player for looking great and even gave them a hat that she believes would go well with the player’s outfit. But, upon opening the gift, the player discovered that Sally gave them a stagehand hat that covered their entire face. What exactly is she trying to say?
Marshal
Ever since New Leaf, Marshal has been a favorite among Animal Crossing fans, despite his smug personality. Now, it appears that Marshal is still very hard to impress in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a player posted a clip on Twitter on how they had to learn this the hard way. During an encounter with Marshal by the beach, the player decided to give him a gift. However, it appears that Marshal was not too happy with what he received, and even blurted out a passive-aggressive insult saying, “I guess anything could come in handy at some point on an island like this.”
Tammi
Tammi has been a villager in Animal Crossing ever since the release of Wild World in 2002. Known for her peppy personality, Tammi has always been nice and fun to be around with, but it appears that Tammi is a little bit mischievous in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One player posted on Twitter how Tammi played a prank on them in-game. While the player is doing their usual chores on the island, Tammi is seen observing them, yet after successfully chopping down a tree, Tammi immediately went up to the tree stump and sat on it, blocking the player from digging it up with a shovel. When confronted, Tammi said that she was just taking a “FAB break,” which is short for “Fantastic Awesome Break.”
Eloise
Last on the list is Eloise, who is a snooty elephant villager that is known to be mean in previous Animal Crossing games. However, it appears that Eloise is still slightly vicious in New Horizons after a player posted their nasty encounter with the elephant. In this encounter, Eloise did not only insult the player but also took a jab at a nearby villager. During a conversation, Eloise was yapping about how she’s trying to give the player’s island a more fashionable touch, which hinted that she dislikes the way the player decorated the island.
However, Cherry went to the player’s rescue and raved about how awesome the island is. Eloise responded to Cherry by saying that the island “could stand to be more elegant. Take you, for instance.” However, before she could finish her sentence, Cherry threatened her to “tread carefully,: but Eloise still let out an insult saying that she could dress better. Of course, this is not at all surprising for Eloise given that she has always been mean in previous games.
In the end, it seems that while most villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are relatively kinder than their previous counterparts, there are still a few of them that are vicious and mean. Of course, having villagers with an attitude in the game is not bad, given that it provides drama and entertainment that has annoyed and delighted players for a long time now. Interestingly enough, prior to the release of New Horizons last month, players were hoping for the return of nasty villagers and it appears that Animal Crossing: New Horizons delivered.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
