As the game takes place on a series of islands, Animal Crossing: New Horizon features a lot of water, most of which looks fine. However, the tap water specifically seems to have taken on a yellowish tinge. This isn’t the first time Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have noticed something odd about the water, but it may be the most memorable–and meme-able.

Redditor JoeHeroOfArdania shared a screenshot of a sink in their home which appears to feature noticeably yellow water pouring out of the tap and landing in the sink. Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers a wide variety of interior design options to players, including a number of different sinks, but these furniture items typically offer clear water. It may be possible that the image’s warm lighting caused the water to seem discolored. However, as the stainless steel sink found on the Ironwood Kitchenette item JoeHeroOfArdania used doesn’t appear to reflect the same yellow tinge, it appears the odd color is coming from the water itself.
Other users shared their thoughts on the unusual image and came up with several possible theories for what could be going on. Several users theorized the water was infused with lemon, while a number of others began debating whether or not Tom Nook was planning to poison JoeHeroOfArdania. Opinions appear to be split on whether the yellow tint is from an immortality potion so Tom Nook can keep players in debt forever or if it’s a poison meant for islanders who’ve paid off their loan so he can resell the house and make more money.
Several users theorized that the supposed water was in fact Mountain Dew, Gatorade, or even apple juice meant to keep the doctor away. Another user theorized that the Nook family had begun fracking, a mining process which is notorious for poisoning groundwater, while a third decided the sink was now a beer tap. Regardless, it appears that Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ ocean and rivers are likely unaffected, so JoeHeroOfArdania may wish to start refining water from another source until the sink issue is fixed.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
