The scene in question is one of many memes to come out of SpongeBob SquarePants, and it took place in the episode “Tea at the Treedome.” Even non-fans will recognize the moment, as it has been used across the internet for years now. During the episode, SpongeBob visits Sandy’s dome for tea, and he is too stubborn to admit that he needs water to survive. The result is a hilarious scene where the sea sponge begins to dry up, telling himself “I don’t need it” as he resists a glass of water that is resting on the table.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons player and Reddit user Biochao shared their incredible recreation of the scene. Instead of using their own character, they give the Gyroid type Crumploid the role of SpongeBob. This was a perfect decision on the part of the player, as Crumploid is known for its unique design that makes it look dried up and in need of some water. It’s also yellow, matching SpongeBob’s signature color. With many players having watered their Crumploids in the hope that they will start to look a bit less parched, the Redditor could not have picked a better stand-in.

Aside from the choice of Gyroid mirroring the look of SpongeBob in the “I don’t need it” meme, the player perfectly captured the rest of the setting. A red and white tablecloth is clearly visible, while a grassy green floor mimics Sandy’s dome and the sea walls resemble the rest of Bikini Bottom. A refreshing drink is placed right in the center of the table, with the Crumploid staring at the beverage as audio from SpongeBob SquarePants plays.

While a brief clip would have been funny enough on its own, the Redditor manages to recreate the entire meme inside Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Perfect camera cuts match the close-ups on SpongeBob, and when he finally caves in, the Redditor manages to make it look like the Gyroid is talking with their good camerawork. Everything about the recreation is spot-on, so it is no surprise that Animal Crossing and SpongeBob SquarePants fans alike adore the clip. With over 21,000 upvotes, the video is clearly getting the love it deserves.

Nearly two years after it launched, Animal Crossing: New Horizons creations continue to impress. While clever design ideas and themed villages are certainly cool, tributes like this SpongeBob-themed video can be just as memorable.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
