This is far from the first time that gamers have paid tribute to the lovable ogre, as Shrek has become an internet icon in the years since he made his first big screen appearance. Players have made Shrek in two recent video games, for example, with the handsome version made inside Elden Ring and the original variant of Shrek crafted within Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. However, building an entire Animal Crossing island based on Shrek is a massive undertaking, though Redditor rheannananna does seem eager to accept the challenge.

Dubbing their island “Shrekland,” it is clear that this player is fully committed to the idea of a build focused on the Shrek franchise. While the Redditor is not yet willing to show off locations on the island, they have completed the terraforming process. As shown by the overhead view of their island, the land has been edited so that its entire center is covered by a body of water that makes up Shrek’s face. Creating Shrek’s face had to be extremely difficult, though the gamer nailed his eyes, mouth, and nose.

A nice touch sees the island named Duloc, a reference to the Shrek films. Duloc is the name of a massive city run by Lord Farquaad, and it is designed to be perfect. It will be interesting to see if the Redditor actually makes Duloc itself or simply borrows its name, as the castle walls added within Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ 2.0 update would make it possible to build the city. Regardless, building Shrek’s swamp seems like a no-brainer, as it would be a lot of fun to make a gross-looking area with his iconic tree house and outhouse.

Alongside several Shrek memes being posted in the comments, Redditor Solalabell asked about the Villagers that would be coming to this island. If the Redditor wants to go all-in on the meme, the large green sheep Cashmere seems like a must due to his Shrek-like appearance. Finding stand-ins for Donkey, Puss in Boots, and Fiona could also be worthwhile, though this would likely take some work on the Redditor’s end. After all, it seems like they are still in the planning stages when it comes to what the island of Duloc will actually feature.

For those interested in the progress being made on this Shrek island, keeping an eye on the Redditor’s profile would be a wise idea. Given how well they used Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ terraforming system, the rest of the island has the potential to be even cooler than a Shrek-shaped river.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
