Dataminer Ninji has dug through the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update files, discovering evidence that the game could potentially add a farming feature. Files related to carrots, potatoes, squash, sugar cane, tomatoes, and wheat were all discovered, suggesting that the game could be adding vegetables and farming in a future update. This would add yet another major layer to Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ gameplay and could give fans a lot more to do as they complete their daily tasks.

Files were also found suggesting Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be bringing the Gyroids furniture item back. Gyroids have been a staple in the Animal Crossing franchise until New Horizons, with the strange objects making a variety of unique sounds. That being said, there is at least one Gyroid in Animal Crossing: New Horizons already, as players have to talk to one to fund island construction projects like new bridges.
And finally, the New Horizons update datamine pointed to a new Plumeria bush type being added to the game. Presumably, players will have to purchase the bush from Leif the Sloth whenever he shows up on their island if they want to add it to their collection.
However, it’s worth pointing out that it’s entirely possible that none of this content will actually come to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It could be that these features were in development for the game at one point, only for Nintendo to ultimately scrap them. But then again, dataminers found evidence of Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ swimming feature months before it actually made it into the game, so it really could go either way.
All we know for sure is that an Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween update is in the works. Maybe these features will be added then, but that’s just speculation at this time. Nintendo has not provided any specifics on the Halloween update beyond that it exists, so Animal Crossing fans will just have to stay tuned.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
