In the UK, and most of the world, Animal Crossing has blown away all other releases on the Switch in the UK. The physical sales numbers topped the all the previous Animal Crossing titles combined, blew Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield separately out of the water, and became an overnight Switch success. It’s the best selling Switch title so far, and that should be a surprise to no one.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out March 20th, 2020 amid an ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, giving people something to do and a way to connect to each other. So it should be no surprise that it is selling very well. The wholesome world of New Horizons is a great counterpoint to the quarantine that most of the world is going through right now, as well as uncertain financial stability.
If any game so far this year deserves to be the best selling game in the UK, and most likely in more places too, it has to be Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This game has added tons of new and interesting features, upgraded visuals, as well as fun returning features, like the ability to catch sharks. It’s also on the Switch, which is one of the most popular Nintendo consoles since the Wii.
This highly-rated game by both fans and reviewers has sold even more than Doom: Eternal which released the same day. These numbers don’t even include online, digital sales; these numbers only consider physical sales. With it’s perfect timing on the market and perfectly wholesome story, it’s a clear winner for Nintendo.
