Animal Crossing New Horizons: Where to Get Sugarcane Starts

Before Sugarcane can be harvested, players will first need to get their hands on Sugarcane Starts, and these can be purchased from the merchant named Leif in ACNH. Like the other merchants, Leif can appear in the town square from time to time if players are lucky. However, by upgrading Harv’s Island, players can donate 100,000 Bells to the cause to give Leif a permanent spot on the island. Players can purchase the Sugarcane Starts in packs of five for 1400 Bells or 260 Bells a pop separately.

Even if players have access to Leif, whether it’s on the main island or Harv’s upgraded island, they might not always be able to purchase Sugarcane from them. If Leif’s current selection of items doesn’t have it, then players will need to talk to him at a later time, as his inventory will slightly change.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Sugarcane

Now that ACNH players have Sugarcane on their person, they can head back to their village and start to plant the Sugarcane in the dirt. By watering the crops daily, more Sugarcane can be harvested. It’ll take a few days for the Sugarcane to grow, similar to Wheat in ACNH, but impatient players can always time travel to get ahead and start cooking food faster.

How to Upgrade Harv’s Island

For the players out there that have yet to upgrade Harv’s Island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can do so by ensuring their island is at least at a 3-star rating. Once that is done, players will receive a letter from Harv telling them to go to his island for a cool surprise. The letter will not be sent until players unlock Harv’s Island and complete part of the photo tutorial inside his home.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
