Animal Crossing: New Horizons has players follow a character who decides to move to a deserted island where they meet aspiring capitalist and personal bank lender, Tom Nook. Players are then tasked to transform the island of Animal Crossing: New Horizons into a perfect get-away to attract other villagers, giving players the freedom to explore, interact with villagers, collect items, and customize homes and the look of the island itself. Despite all the work the players do, Tom Nook does not pay the player for their effort but rather grants them a generous loan with flexible financing for their own home.

The nature of Tom Nook in Animal Crossing: New Horizons have some fans debating his morality. Tom Nook is viewed as exploitative by players as they are the ones responsible for building the island while remaining in debt to Tom throughout the game. Maybe this is why u/CaveFlavored on Reddit decided to spend “too many hours” crafting their very own Tom Nook pinata out of paper mache that was filled with chocolate coins. In a post to Reddit, CaveFlavored highlighted their hard work in a text post and accompanied it with several images of the process for all to see.

The replies to the post featured a mix of praise for the crafting talents of CaveFlavored and a sense of sweet revenge against Tom Nook for placing them in virtual debt in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One user stated that it was a dream of theirs to beat their spent bells back out of Tom Nook and thanked the original poster for making their dreams a reality. Another user jokingly commented about on one of the progress photos of “Naked pinata Nook” and stated that he is not real and cannot hurt them.

Considering that the game allows players to experiment with design and aesthetic choices, it is no surprise that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has attracted a crafty crowd. It is a lot of fun to see Animal Crossing fans craft items in real life alongside the video game and is a testament to how iconic the game and characters are years after its release.
