A lot of people love Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the multiplayer aspect, the customization of island decor and clothes, the seasonal events coming to their islands, and the generally chill atmosphere surrounding players as they complete their tasks. The game also appeals to a lot of people’s love of completion in a way that scratches that itch other games like Pokemon exhibit, and filling up one’s Critterpedia is a prime way to do that.

Players got access to new fish in ACNH this September, but given the game’s theme of changing with the seasons, some of these fish will be no longer available after the month is over. People can check the list below for what players can no longer expect to be reeling in on their fishing poles.

Catching fish can help New Horizons players with their Critterpedia and filling the Museum, both of which are ways many players love to pass the time and view as an integral part of completion for this game. Duplicate fish can also be sold for extra bells or displayed in the player’s home; the choices are very open-ended, keeping in tune with the game’s theme of making the whole experience unique to the player. Some people may want to find and sell the rarest and most lucrative fish possible to use the bells on improving their islands’ look, while others may want a home aquarium.

Something that’s important to note is the river locations in New Horizons, since different fish can be found at different parts of the river, whether that’s at any point (like most fish), or on clifftops (like the stringfish), or at the mouth (like both types of salmon and the sturgeon). The ocean also has a similar variety, in that the sharks are suckerfish are notable by their fins, which is a good sign for players looking to get those specific sharks or sell them for the bigger amount of bells they draw in.

Fall in Animal Crossings: New Horizons is bringing a lot of new content, and players can expect even more come Halloween, so it shouldn’t be too much of a bummer to temporarily lose access to these fish, especially as they will most likely show up again next year.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
